Cider donuts made fresh each day

The hot, delicious cider donuts we make in our bakery every day are not just good – they’ve been voted number one by Capital Region Living year after year since 2011! What’s our secret?

Probably it’s the cider we press from our own apples, in our pressing room just behind the bakery. Apple cider gives donuts a rich, tangy sweetness and a light and fluffy texture. The exact formula we use, though, is a well-kept secret.

Back in 1988, Douglas Grout started the bakery with just one donut machine and one mixer. Doug’s cider donuts were soon the most popular item at the Roadstand, and the bakery had to be expanded to keep up with demand.

Now we have five donut machines, and on super busy days such as fall weekends and Halloween the machines (and our staff) work all day long. Customers sometimes have to wait in line when we run low, but they don’t seem to mind! We also have five convection ovens that turn out pies, cookies, muffins, and other delicacies (see list below).

John Henry, our bakery manager and donut expert, has been keeping our bakery humming for over 25 years, often starting up the ovens and donut machines before dawn.

Over the years, John has perfected his secret formula, with just the right mix of cider, cinnamon and other ingredients. Make sure to try a free sample when you stop in.

In addition to donuts, we sell nine types of pies, plus a few others seasonally. All of our baked goods are made with only the highest quality ingredients.

Special Events

At Thanksgiving we take advance orders for hundreds of pies, and we usually cook all night! We have provided cider donuts and pies for parties, weddings, fundraisers, fairs, and sports and community events. We also take orders from families who are just looking for that special treat for dinner. We even supplied the presidential inauguration ceremony in 2013.
